Why choose stone?

  • Stone offers natural beauty and becomes more attractive with age
  • Quick and easy to clean
  • Does not harbour dust mites or allergens like carpets, therefore alleviates symptoms associated with asthma and allergies
  • Stone is excellent with under floor heating
  • Stone is unlikely to need replacing in the event of flooding.
  • A high quality, well maintained stone will last a lifetime

Choosing the right stone for you

Stone is a natural material with natural variations of colour, surface textures and size. We therefore strongly advise you to view as much stone as possible before making your final decision. Our impressive showroom in Chobham holds innovative tiles from around the word and can help you make your choice.

Where are the tiles being used?
Stone tiles can be used in or out doors but make sure that the stone fits your lifestyle. Moisture levels, slip resistance, traffic should be considered. A marble stone tile floor may not be the best choice for a bathroom, where there is likely to be water spillages. In an area such as this, stone flooring such as slate tile may be more appropriate.

Exterior: Some of our tiles can be used outdoors. In this case the thickness of the tile should be considered. We recommend a thickness of at least 20mm for exterior tiling. Anything less is likely to crack during a hard frost.

Walls or Floors?: Laid correctly, any thickness of tile can be used for a floor application. For walls, due to the weight, only 10 or 12mm thick stones should be used and the type of wall should be considered..............

Forest of stone offer anything from very small mosaics to extra larges slabs, so your choice is limitless. Larger tiles often make an area look bigger whereas dark small tiles can close in a small room.

What type of stone?
Do you prefer limestone, or slate. The look you are after is essentially more important than the type of stone. People are often mistaken into thinking that certain types of stone are better or more hard-wearing than others. Generally this is not the case, natural stone should last a lifetime!

What finish would you like?
For a modern or classic look you may like to choose a smooth honed or polished stone. For a rustic look a riven or antique stone would work. Tumbled stone has an aged natural charm, created by spinning stone in a tumbling machine in order to achieve rounded edges and a soft textured surface.

What colour would you like?
The choice is endless. Stone comes in a variety of colours some that are reasonably plan, some displaying hundreds of fossils. Remember, as a product of Nature no two stones are identical. Variation in colour, texture & content is an inherent characteristic.
